Hindustan Tibet Mission
By : Fr. Fulgentius Vannini

“THE HINDUSTAN-TIBET MISSION” is the fourth book published by Father Fulgentius anc covers a period of well over one hundred years of Church history in Northern India from the Year 1703, when the prefecture of Tibet was established, up to 1845, when this mission was officially abolished and gave origin to the Vicariates Apostolic of Agra and Patna. “THE HINDUSTAN TIBET-MISSION” is a precious document of history about the early missionary endeavors of the Italian Capuchins both in Tibet and in other Northern parts of India. It is really very interesting to note that heeding to he mandate of Gospel “Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples” and encouraged by the Congregation of Propaganda de Fide, six members of the first expedition set sail from Leghorn (Italy) on 6th May 1704 and only two succeeded in reaching Lhasa, the Capital of Eastern Tibet. There after, the author enumerates the work of the various missionaries with frankness and precision as to how by the sweat of their brow, they laboured ceaselessly in sowing the tiny mustard seed, which has now become a big mustard tree, the Catholic Church of today in North India.
